The Oshie is an original P.F. Magic breed that was initially only accepted in one colour - red smoke. Believed to be based off of the American Wirehair, the breed has developed since and is now accepted in all colours and patterns that the American Wirehair standard lists except for ticked tabby. However, despite some similarities, the Orange Shorthair is its own distinct breed and does not compete against American Wirehairs in the PKC. Their personalities and many structural differences, including their characteristic pear-shaped bodies and poofy tail, set them apart from their hypothesised inspiration!
Oshies have frantic temperaments. They are always scared and do not pose naturally, which can make them a frustrating first breed. However, they are easy to pose using the perfume bottle and have an endearing appearance with their curly rugged coats and worried eyelids. As they are an original breed, they are also a great way to learn to hex and use furfiles without dealing with a multitude of additional ballz.
At Swallowtail, the Orange Shorthair has been a favourite from the very beginning and has been a major focus since before the official establishment of this cattery. We have been home to many PKC champions in the past and hope to continue breeding the best of this breed into the future.
